Look In The Mirror?

It is common to think that we do our best in our relationships, but if we indulge in some considerable self-reflection (and are honest), we shall find that we are a huge part of our own problem. It is always easier to blame the other person. They did not love me enough. They did not communicate with me. They were not honest with me. And the list goes on and on. Just as we pin our hopes, dreams, and expectations on the person we are with....so do we pin the blame when things go wrong.

Love: That elusive feeling of euphoria that drives us beyond normality and for some to levels of insanity. We often offer our love with "conditions and deal breakers", within limits, at certain times, not at certain times, and that information is to be committed to our mate's memory for quick access at a light speed. But we expect it gift-wrapped in an unconditional, forgiving, selfless, and spiritual packing with a perfect sensual bow. Are we giving as we expect to receive? Probably not.
Communication: We either over-read and respond, or we don't read and do nothing. Sometimes we say nothing and others.....we fly off the emotional handle. Who hasn't let their emotions get the best of them leading to emotional communication shutdown or the spewing of verbal F-bombs and expletives with the force of Mount St. Helens. But we desire the patient, open, gloves off, 'no-score-keeping' communication. But do we offer the same. Not as much as we could.
Honesty: We all have a problem with it in our own way. Many of us don't want to divulge too much too early. Or much at all. And we all have our dirty little secrets that we take to the grave. And then there are those of us who feel by sharing we somehow lose a portion of ourselves. BUT....we expect who we are with to bare their soul unconditionally and without fail. Is that fair? Of course not, but we do it.

In short, no one is perfect and we need to remember that as we talk to, interact, and love those we claim to love and be in a relationship with. "Let he or she who is without sin cast the first stone." Look in the mirror and take a hard..HARD...look. You might be surprised what you find.
